Today, which is my sister's 63rd birthday, we went to a class on clamming. One of the things we learned from the 79 yr old volunteer, Bill, is that clam reproduce using external fertilization and something about "poof" "poof". He didn't seem to think it was much fun for them.
The Jennings ventured out into the cold brackish water to try out the newly learned techniques of clamming while I volunteered to stay on shore and document this momentous occasion.
Chelsea had success fairly quickly.
Steff did not get any clams but had a great time until the wave came and sloshed water all over the side of her shirt. It was very windy and choppy out there so waves snuck up on you when you were not expecting them. BTW, they were in the intracoastal.
By the end, they had 5 clams after just a few minutes of clamming. Now they are hooked and want to do much much more including eating of said clams with butter.
Afterwards we went hiking thru the FL woods - which is SO my favorite. Especially when Bill yelled, "SNAKE! Big snake." I went into complete denial mode and ignored everything until we were back in the car where we freakin' belong. Communing with nature in Fl is just folly in my mind. No thanks.
So, Steff - happy birthday, sister. And yeah, she is in her 40's. I mighta added a few years to her age in a sisterly love kind of way.
