My birthday was very nice. This cake that Steff baked for me is a banana split cake and it was so fabulous. I used to always request this cake back when my mom would bake my cake. Now after about 20+ years, I had it again and it was just as good as I remember.

Joe made me a nice london broil dinner with Steff, Bill and Chelsea there too. We had a great evening. I got art supplies and an easel - woo hoo! Lovely day.

Today we are celebrating Father's Day. We will go to the beach today and then grill steaks. The beach is about 10 minutes from our house and I like to go look at it but not go swim or hang out so this will be all about Joe. Not my kind of day but one that I will happily do for Joe.

And after dinner there will be crafts. I made a pretty bookmark on my birthday cos I had not done crafts for a week or so. Tonight everybody will make a bookmark. I think they are just humoring me but whatever - I will take it!

There is a story re: the candles. Jarrett asked if he could buy candles for his 15th birthday and said we can use them again cos it will be your 51. Two parties in one. How can you say no to that logic?!

I definitely miss you too!
I will do lots of exploring in preparation for your visit... I've only been down to the North End a handful of times to do dinner (which is totally worth it... fresh pasta that is potentially better than a lot of the food we had while we were there) but after spending a few hours wandering around yesterday... there are so many other great things about it! Tons of bakeries with fresh breads, imported Italian products, little old women with granny carts muttering to themselves in other languages...
...and close to the water! (that you can't put your toes in... but it looks pretty at least!)
Definitely bring walking shoes! I am having quite the time with blisters myself...

Ok...you DEFINATELY DO NOT look like you are 51!! But, happy birthday!! Your party sounds fun and that cake looks so yummy! You are closer to the beach than I am; I live about 20 minutes from the beach but on the opposite coast!! Isn't it great! I find that I don't go to the beach nearly as often as I should for someone who lives so close...funny!
